The Kick I Needed

I was chatting to Darren “The Dazzler” Kearney. “Do you know what really annoyed me about you when you first started?”. Wow. Ok. “You stuck to the girls and you wouldn’t work with anyone else”. He was right. “I’m glad to see you finally coming out of your shell”. Up until this point, I had been traveling once a week to train. Once a week just isn’t enough when it comes to wrestling. It doesn’t allow you the time to build a relationship with other trainees. I won’t lie, I was glad he said it because it really lit a fire under me. The focus of this particular class was promos. I grew up watching talkers like Roddy Piper and...

6 Person Tag Match

"I want Conor, Devo and Kaydee on one team, and Nathan, Damo and El Unico on the other". This was my first tag match so I was a little worried about what I could bring to the table. I was also slightly nervous because this was going to be the first time that Phil “the thrill” Boyd and Katey Harvey were going to see me wrestle. Well, they were there for my very first match, but you all know how that went. I wanted to impress them and prove that I am making progress. “Ring that bell”. El Unico and Conor step into the ring. They lock up. El Unico puts Conor into a wristlock but Conor manages to reverse...

Working with Sean Guinness

Fresh off the plane from Japan we were joined by Sean Guinness for a two day long seminar at FFPW. The warm up consisted of sprints, high knees, tuck jumps, high heels, side steps and fast feet. I looked over at CT Flexor during the fast feet. “You’re not even moving”. We all laughed. “No man, I’m just going so fast you can’t see”. This was followed by 240 squats, 3 sets of 30 Jump squats (the burn), 3 sets of 30 Lion push ups, 50 sit ups and 50 Russian twists. After that we moved on to some stretching, focusing on the neck and lower back. We worked on some chain wrestling, starting with two people on the mats....

The Turning Point

Ding ding ding. “and the winner is Darren The Dazzler Kearney”. I was up next in a match against Dell PC. It was now or never. I threw my hood up and walked towards the ring. “Get out of my ring”. Everyone paused. “I said get the hell out of my ring”. Nobody knew what was going on. “You people make me sick”. The crowd started to chant. “Oh shut up”. We locked up. He put me in a wrist lock. I reversed it. He puts me in a hammer lock, so I hit him with a couple of dirty punches. The ref pulls me away. We lock up again. I put him in a headlock. He pushes me to...

End of Daye

“This may seem repetitive but you guys are doing this until you have it down, now keep going”. For this spot we had to strike, powerslam, hit the ropes and then elbow drop or leg drop our partner, then switch places. I have the memory of a goldfish so I was happy to do it over and over until it became second nature. Plus, after a couple of reps you start to become more confident so you can put your own spin on it and really sell. LJ Cleary suggested we build on what we had learned by adding a finisher. So once we hit our opponent with an elbow drop, we would then pin them, they would kick out,...
